Context and Goals
The Gateway LLEN Environmental Scan 2015 was commissioned in December 2015 and published to website in February 2015 and combines all relevant industry data including growth areas and primary employment sectors for the Gateway region.
Consultation with schools and VETis enrolment data from previous year identified the need for industry-based partnerships that delivered content relevant to VETis pathways and provided students with “real-life” employment pathways and potential access to 124 industry exhibitors.
“The benefit of the expo was enormous for these young engineering students. It opens their minds to the possibilities to what different industries can offer. I thought the presentations from the different representatives at their corresponding stations really engaged the Students.” Greg Latham, VETis Engineering, Holmesglen Institute of TAFE.
The Austech Exposition is a professional environment, where students visited employer stands and learned about specific industry technology, skills sets and future vacancies.
This student/ industry tour:
- Linked students undertaking fabrication/ manufacturing trade studies to an industry specific professional exposition.
- Promoted sectors experiencing skills shortages to young people.
- Allowed students and trainers to investigate new technologies within a professional employer environment and liaise with future employers.
