Gateway Career Expo

For the first time, Gateway LLEN has teamed together with a huge range of employers, industry associations and training partners to host a fun and interactive expo dedicated to careers, training, and employment for young people in Manningham, Monash and Whitehorse.

The Challenge

To host a fun and interactive expo dedicated to all things careers!  The decision to host our first careers expo was derived from school consultation where:

  • 95% of survey respondents indicated specific interest in careers and pathways
  • 76% in expos and industry events
  • 52% in mentors/industry professionals

“I wanted to write to express my sincerest thanks for such a wonderful opportunity on Thursday! I was so impressed with the level organisation, variety and hospitality on offer and goodness, did I get to talk to young people or what??
Thank you, it was a really valuable 4.5hrs and I had multiple meaningful conversations with several young people. The YP that came through were really engaged and seemed open to exploring pathways for support and development. I took home a tonne of business cards and I’ve already received some fantastic enquiries so congratulations to you all and thank you for having us along. Always here in support of Gateway LLEN.”

Elaine Liebetrau, Community Awareness Coordinator, headspace Syndal

“This was a great experience for the students and staff. So many opportunities to network, collect information and resources and gain further insight into various industries.”

Jaclyn Jacobs, Learning Specialist: Vocational Education and Pathways, Wellington Secondary College

“It’s been a fantastic opportunity for the students to explore and discover what’s out there post-school and to think about their pathways and their opportunities”.

Brooke O’Hara, Careers and Pathways Coordinator, Our Lady of Sion College

The Result

In March 2023 Gateway LLEN hosted our first Careers Expo for Years 11 & 12 students from schools across the region. The Gateway Careers Expo provided a chance to reach students and educators in an informal and fun setting; connecting exhibitors with their future workforce, showcasing their organisations and the skills and pathways involved in an extensive range of trades and professions.

In 2023 the expo hosted over 700 young people and approximately 70 exhibitors. It was a day full of engaged conversation, networking, learning and the occasional freebie!
